Lincoln is a fast growing city
located in the east central area of alabama
We pride ourselves as an innovative and dynamic municipality striving to improve the quality of life for all our citizens. The City is located on Interstate 20, U.S. Highway 78 and Alabama Highway 77 with Logan Martin Lake bordering to the West.
We have five council districts of which two are held by minorities and two of the five districts have female representation. The city has had two minority police chiefs. Women have always played a significant role in our city government. The first woman was elected to the council in 1928. Since 1972 at least one woman has been on every council and in 2004 the majority of the council members were women. In addition, veterans are represented in almost every City department. We thank them for their courage, resilience, and sacrifice.
The City encourages women, minorities, people with disabilities, and veterans to apply for work with our great city.
On May 5, 2014 Councilwoman Sadie Britt of Lincoln was elected by her municipal colleagues to serve as Vice President of the Alabama League of Municipalities for 2014-2015. She was elected and took office during the League's annual convention, which was held in Mobile, AL on May 3-6, 2014. In 2015, Councilwoman Britt became the first African American female president of the League of Municipalities since its inception in 1935.
The Mayor and Council regularly attend a number of professional programs and conferences to aid and improve their ability to effectively manage and govern the City of Lincoln. These include, but are not limited to courses, meetings and conferences from the National League of Cities, and the Alabama League of Municipalities. The city is a member of the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission as well as the Talladega County Economic Development Authority.
The City was instrumental in recruiting Honda Manufacturing of Alabama to our fine city. Further, the City prepared the legislation creating the International Motorsports Hall of Fame at its inception. Lincoln is home to the exclusive Lincoln Harbor on Logan Martin Lake, a 900 unit lakeside residential development. With our many new subdivisions, there are housing styles to meet any market demand.
