We have five council districts of which two are held by minorities and two of the five districts have female representation. The city has had two minority police chiefs. Women have always played a significant role in our city government. The first woman was elected to the council in 1928. Since 1972 at least one woman has been on every council and in 2004 the majority of the council members were women. In addition, veterans are represented in almost every City department. We thank them for their courage, resilience, and sacrifice.
The City encourages women, minorities, people with disabilities, and veterans to apply for work with our great city.
