The city established its first library in 1975. At that time the library was a small room in city hall and was identified as the smallest recognized library in the state. The second library building was constructed in 1980. On July 21, 2014 we opened our new spacious 7500 square foot library. The new library is modernized with vibrant colors, computer work areas, comfortable reading chairs and a beautiful children's area with a large mural painted by a local artist.
The current Library has a collection of over 16,500 books. The books include best sellers, biographies, westerns, audio books, large print and reference. In our juvenile section we have numerous AR books and non-fiction books available for any school assignment. We also have a great selection for the youngest readers. Now we offer the Online Book Catalog as well as E-Books for your convenience.
The Library has 15 computers available to the public with internet access and printing capabilities. We have access to the Alabama Virtual Library through the State of Alabama Library System in addition to the Homework Help site; and Alabama Job Links. The Library has a WebCam which is available to the public, this is particularly useful for military families.
Each month the mayor spot lights a particular book for a “book of the month” designation to bring attention to the library. These selections tend to be books that describe events and people who have made a contribution to our country and state or of general interest.
The Lincoln Public Library host a Summer Reading Program during the month of June for children ages 4 through 12 with activities and performers. Each Tuesday of the week at 10:00 a.m the library host Preschool story hour.
Prior to a formal library building the city was served by a book mobile from the Cheaha Regional Library. This came into being as a result of the Lincoln Civic Action Committee desire to provide more services to the city.
